Why Pie Charts

Why Pie?

"The popularity of pie charts is a bit of a mystery. The data visualization goals of a pie chart can easily and more effectively be shown with a bar chart or even a simple table. In the worst of cases, a whole pie chart is used to show a single number."

Long Bets

Take a chance

The purpose of Long Bets is to improve long–term thinking. Long Bets is a public arena for enjoyably competitive predictions, of interest to society, with philanthropic money at stake. The Long Now Foundation furnishes the continuity to see even the longest bets through to public resolution. This website provides a forum for discussion about what may be learned from the bets and their eventual outcomes.
  • By 2060 the total population of humans on earth will be less than it is today.
  • By 2020, bioterror or bioerror will lead to one million casualties in a single event.
  • Music CDs compatible with current (2002) CD players will still be sold regularly in 2015.
  • By the year 2020 solar electricity will be as cheap or cheaper than that produced by fossil fuels.

Resolve Names

CC search

”When you have more than one Contacts folder or address list enabled as an address book Outlook will use the folder when it resolves names provided it's on the check names list.

When you type a name in the To, CC or BCC fields, Outlook begins searching in the address list at the top of this list and works its way down the folders on the list, until it finds a match. For example: if you type Bill in the To field and have Bill Smith in the first contacts folder and Bill Jones is in the second folder on the list, typing just Bill will resolve to Bill Smith. You'll need to type Bill J to resolve to Bill Jones, or reorder the list.

If names in the address book are not resolving, open the address book
(Ctrl+Shft+B) and look on its Tools, Options menu. If the contacts folder is not listed in the 'When sending mail, check names using these addresses in the following order:' dialog, you'll need to click Add to add it to the list.”

Formatted Input Boxes

Use text boxes

"You can use a Data Validation Input Message to display a message when a cell is selected. However, the font can't be changed, nor can message box size be controlled.

To overcome these limitations, you can create a text box to display the message, and use programming to make it appear if cells that contain a data validation Input Message are selected.'
